Chasity Salvador
Chasity Salvador is a Pueblo farmer, traditional seedkeeper and birthkeeper, southwest herbalist, certified full-spectrum doula, and a soon-to-be licensed massage therapist; growing seed and food for her community of Acoma Pueblo. She is a certified full-spectrum community doula, indigenous childbirth educator and breastfeeding/chestfeeding specialist in pursuit of becoming a licensed and traditional midwife in the state of New Mexico. Chasity is a licensed massage therapist providing doula services and massage therapy/traditional healing modalities to various communities. She is a scholar, writer, and organizer on Pueblo women in agriculture and indigenous food and seed sovereignty. Her poetry tells the story on how all these lines of work contribute to the healing of Pueblo women and children from the impacts of ongoing settler colonialism, capitalism, climate change, and the environmental destruction from extractive projects that occur near and on her homeland of Acoma Pueblo. Her latest line of work has been generating food and seed sovereignty awareness among her Pueblo, and restoring and working with medicinal plant knowledge in Acoma Pueblo for her doula clients and their families and community members who experience chronic illnesses, PTSD, and who are healing from all forms of trauma. She is the proud owner and creator of Sandstone Farm. Chasity’s expressions of her deep relationship to her work with plants, people, birth, food, seeds, and land stewardship can be found in various publications and books some of which include: Yellow Medicine Review: A Journal of Indigenous Literature, Art and Thought Spring 2023 Edition; New Mexico Poetry: Anthology 2023 Edition; Into the Unknown: A community climate anthology for New Mexico and many more.
